Prize-draw helps to raise life-changing sums of money
A brilliant response to our competition to win tickets to go to the British Olympic gymnast’s send-off dinner has helped to raise potentially life-changing sums of money.
The money raised could help to deliver our Age & Dementia Friendly Gymnastics Programme in one care home for an entire year, light up the lives of up to 400 disabled children across four special schools in their first experience of gymnastics, or support 2 -3 British Gymnastics members with much needed financial assistance; helping them to sustain their participation in gymnastics through times of crisis.
As each Olympic cycle comes around, British Gymnastics put on an evening of fine-dining and entertainment, to celebrate the Olympians making the team.
We were delighted when British Gymnastics offered us the chance to auction off four tickets, and host a prize-draw for two tickets for the evening in order to help raise money.
The gymnastics community responded like only the gymnastics community can, and we would like to thank everyone that took the time to enter the auction and prize-draw, helping to raise the sum of money that we did.
Stuart Brown and son George were the lucky winners of the prize-draw and were present amongst all 13 Olympic gymnasts, including now double Olympic champion Max Whitlock.
George, a budding gymnast, had the time of his life, and father Stuart was grateful for how welcoming the GB gymnasts were, and believes they’ve made a lasting impression on George: “In the middle of the evening Kristian came over to the table and asked if George wanted to meet all the team. We spoke to the guys and wished them all luck.
“He (George) asked how he could improve his dismounts on pommel. Max suggested practice, practice and more practice. The whole experience was so inspiring for George and myself as a gymnast parent. Seeing what hard work could bring you, being part of such a wonderful team that is there for one another.”
And Patrick Bonner, British Gymnastics Foundation Manager, was delighted with the response to the competition: “Thank you so much to everyone who bought tickets and to British Gymnastics and all the Olympic Gymnasts on the night. You made it such a special experience for our prize winners!
“There will be more competitions like this in the future, so we hope that even more people will buy tickets to be in with a chance of meeting their gymnastics heroes next time and all in aid of supporting our great charity work to transform people’s lives through gymnastics.”
